The poems are taken from The Ragpicker's Bundle that was completed earlier this year (2026). Originally, Mark Knopfler's song 'The Ragpicker's Dream' was the inspiration for beginning the work on the collection of essays, stories, and poems. Ultimately, Charles Baudelaire's poem 'The Ragpicker's Wine' supplied the necessary impetus to complete the work. The eclectic nature of the poems in this volume is intended to reflect the hodgepodge nature of a ragpicker's treasures.

In this slim volume, the old forms of Japanese poetry constitute the bones, the framework of the poems. The poetic explorations that follow use three of these ancient Japanese poetic forms—chōka, tanka, and shichigon-zekku—as classic skeletons on which to hang some romantic modern flesh in English.

This book features two of the seven stories taken from Nansen's Cat. Killings and koans, mayhem and metaphysics, the DoubleNickel Detective stories serve up the usual mix of characters, clues, and conundrums. Called DoubleNickel as a boy for his thick glasses, and 'Nick' as a college man, he remains without a name in the stories. He is a brown paper sack, a rumpled suit, a mutt of mixed ancestry. His father is Japanese; his mother is Irish. He is sardonic with a penchant for wit and whiskey. He is a private cop who lines up with the hard-boiled boys. Might be more here than meets the eye.

REFLECTION, a novel (2026)
A novel needs to contain 50,000 words and more if you wish to be in the good graces of Publishing, which I don't, don't give a hoot, suggesting that if you question my label your answer becomes the misfortune of the question. REFLECTION is what the reader makes of it. Wilfred Bion's only goal as a psychoanalyst was to teach people to think, to think so as to ameliorate, in some practical way, the psychological trauma of what we chose to call reality. REFLECTION is a drop in the bottomless bucket, a moment to consider, coyote, nose in the air, dogtrotting to a meal, pelicans on the wing, spider webs, or the bells of Santa Rosalia. A rose by any other name still pricks.
